I jumped aboard where there was still room next to the driver—thereby and by want of an alternative defying convention and protocol. We threatened to vanish in a haze of fumes. The gears crunched an alarmed and disparate chorus of protest until at last we lunged off and pushed our way through the blackness of the failing still-night which clung to the muddied windscreen while the driver struggled to stick to the vague contours of the rough road which would lead along the Kemet shadow of the flood plain and, as the stars faded, to the waiting boat which bobbed its gentle and tethered impatience at the banks of the swirling Nile.
Ahnungslos aneinander vorbei wie Schiffe in der Nacht.
And then, as Markub was about to leave to return to the modest bliss of the eastern suburbs, the latest gossip about the royal court. As if I was interested. Akhenaten had taken another wife, Kia, and Nefertiti, Mrs Numero Uno, was, as reliable rumour had it, fuming like camel dung. I knew already, at least about the advent of Kia.
We had watched her arrival the previous dawn. At dawn vultures over the Great Palace.
They had been swarming for some days around the cliff tops to the east, perched on peaks and descending to the plain below in search of the fresh carrion which is carved up by night as those fleeing in vain from the city are rounded up and cut down by the soldiers who patrol the eastern city limits.
Pawah, the priest, called the presence of the vultures a bad omen bloody genius!
This book is not yet featured on Listopia. As the author, I could not possibly comment I do, however, await with curiosity all merciless criticism, or even lukewarm appreciation!

I really enjoyed the book. I thought that it was extremely well written, entertaining and interesting. I thought that it was somewhat dragged out and like many of the characters in the book just wished that he would come straight to the point.
If you are a fan of I really enjoyed the book. If you are a fan of Agatha Christie, Hercule Poirot or just British fiction I think that you will really enjoy this book. I wrote this book, so I couldn't possibly comment on the quality.
